Keep On Path

Wasn't Jesus the original hippie? With his sandals, dress and kind, compassionate, tender, joyful nature? What a loaded word that is! I am oftentimes called a hippie – in some ways, I am, some not. Breathing a Sigh of Relief that You Are Together

IMG_8606

Five Minute Friday (write at a prompt) at http://www.lisajobaker.com, and the word is ‘together.’

And it is dangerous for me to be sitting here trying to write this at 7:00pm when I am tired, and the urge to be tough and defiant is even stronger as the weariness settles in.

But the thing is that Lisa Jo is just so damn sweet. She writes,

“There is fresh faith and beautiful courage built into the days of sitting down on the front step and saying, I can’t do this thing alone anymore.”

I have been there so many times.

And I always looked in the wrong places before.

Trying to please people that I would never please.

Trying to befriend people at every corner.

I have finally figured out to quit looking in the wrong places. There are people out there who listen and don’t put you down in return or belittle or criticize or scream or gossip behind your back. People who you don’t have to worry about saying the wrong word that will ‘set them off.’

There are lovely friends who are open and giving and kind and who are appreciative when you are the same.  Friends you can let yourself just Be with.  Friends who come through the door and give you a generous real hug. And when they ask how you are, they mean it. And not the short version even though the long version may not be possible with the girls running around in their princess dresses. But you know you can still put your feet up, laugh about the marker doodling on the front door, the mismatched socks on your feet and breathe a sigh of relief that you are together.

It is such a blessing to have a friend that makes you feel like you can just be yourself, without worry of judgment or trying to impress each other. To just enjoy the company of a great friend. A sign of relief indeed!

A lovely friend is a delight. Someone to be yourself with. Thank you for sharing.
I am grateful for the friends I can be myself with. The ones that don’t mind a sink full of dirty dishes and dog hair on the carpet.

Those friends are worth more than words can say. They don’t usually come in spades, but they’re worth keeping when you do find one!
