Keep On Path

Wasn't Jesus the original hippie? With his sandals, dress and kind, compassionate, tender, joyful nature? What a loaded word that is! I am oftentimes called a hippie – in some ways, I am, some not. The Extraordinary Ordinary Mother Theresa

mother theresa

I am fascinated by Mother Theresa. Her ministry was to go to the poorest of the poor and give them what they needed most:  love, the feeling that they mattered.

She would hold their hand: lepers, the dying, the diseased, without fear or concern for herself, and give them what we all need at the core of our being.

I am with you.

You are loved.

You are not ordinary.

You are extraordinary.

When so many of us say ‘what about me’? Why don’t I have what she has?

She said ‘what about them’.

She said:

I don’t need any of those things.

I need God. I need prayer. I need discipline. I need joy. I need communion with other people.

I am ordinary.

Only through Jesus, only through giving of myself, only through communion with others are we all made extraordinary.

Mother Theresa’s resume of her philosophy of life written in her seventies:

Life is an opportunity, avail it.

Life is a beauty, admire it.

Life is bliss, taste it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is costly, care for it.

Life is a wealth, keep it.

Life is love, enjoy it.

Life is mystery, know it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is a sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, brace it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is life, save it!

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

“I am ordinary … you are extraordinary.” An incredible summary of what it is to live the Christian life, seeing our own dependance on Jesus while at the same time seeing his face in everyone we encounter. Thank you and God bless!

I love Mother Theresa and I love your heart to embrace what she did — Jesus — and live His love in your life. Thanks for a sweet post.
