Keep On Path

Wasn't Jesus the original hippie? With his sandals, dress and kind, compassionate, tender, joyful nature? What a loaded word that is! I am oftentimes called a hippie – in some ways, I am, some not. Walk a Mile in My Shoes – A Five Minute Friday on ‘Lonely’

I almost skipped this post, because when you have four children ranging from 16 months to 13 years old, how can you complain about being alone?  I cannot even remember the last time I went to the bathroom alone.

Alone is something I savor.

Alone is the husband takes the kids, and I just sit on the couch in sheer bliss savoring each precious wonderful golden moment of silence.

Ah – alone.

But alone is not the same as ‘lonely’.  Lonely is not feeling understood and part of a bigger picture.

I am sure most of the posts are along those lines.

Being alone together.

We are born alone, and we die alone.  In between, we find those moments of connection.  But no one ever quite sees things the way you do.

Elvis said it best ‘walk a mile in my shoes’

Walk a mile in my shoes
Just walk a mile in my shoes
Before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Then walk a mile in my shoes

Nobody will ever know how it is to be in your shoes except God of course.

The secret is to find how God talks to you.

He talks to me when I am gardening, when I am taking a bike ride, painting a picture, listening to music, early in the morning when no one else is awake and I am enjoying my coffee and watching the birds.

And he says, ‘I see you. I know your pain. I know your struggles. I am with you.’

Friday, time to crack open the chocolate ice cream and unscripted version of beautiful you! Got five minutes? Let’s write. Let’s finger paint with words. Let’s just write and not worry if it’s just right or not. Here’s how to play along: 1. Write for 5 minutes flat for pure unedited love of the written word. 2. Link back here and invite others to join in {you can grab the button code in my blog footer}. 3. Go and comment on the post of the person who linked up before you. This is the one rule of this community. It’s a great way to catch your breath at the end of a long week. – See more at:

no one every quite sees things the way you do… I love your spin on the topic this week! And I like how you tied Elvis to it 🙂

Thanks Cheri – just reread and saw that I was sitting on the poor coach not couch – ha ha. I lived by Tupelo, Mississippi and learned a lot about Elvis – it does seem that for all he had, he was quite the lonely guy. Take care, Karen
